Applying for Training Scholarship

Open Mat Foundation provides Brazilian Jiu Jitsu scholarships to veterans and first responders struggling with PTSD and service-related trauma. Due to limited funding and training availability, sponsorships are offered in limited numbers and reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Eligibility Guidelines

  • To be considered for sponsorship, applicants must:

  • Be a military veteran or first responder

  • Be experiencing clinically diagnosed or service-related PTSD

  • Be new to Jiu Jitsu or have less than one year of formal training

  • Be willing to commit to consistent training (minimum 2x per week) if selected

  • Be able to train at or near a participating Open Mat Foundation partner academy

Application Process

To help us better understand your situation and determine how we can best support you, please include the following in your message or email:

  • A brief description of your background and service

  • Why you are seeking Jiu Jitsu training

  • How you believe Jiu Jitsu could support your healing journey

  • Your current location

  • Any previous Jiu Jitsu or martial arts experience

Our team carefully reviews every application. If space is not immediately available, applicants may be placed on a waitlist and contacted when funding or training slots open.
