Applying for Training Scholarship
Open Mat Foundation provides Brazilian Jiu Jitsu scholarships to veterans and first responders struggling with PTSD and service-related trauma. Due to limited funding and training availability, sponsorships are offered in limited numbers and reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Eligibility Guidelines
To be considered for sponsorship, applicants must:
Be a military veteran or first responder
Be experiencing clinically diagnosed or service-related PTSD
Be new to Jiu Jitsu or have less than one year of formal training
Be willing to commit to consistent training (minimum 2x per week) if selected
Be able to train at or near a participating Open Mat Foundation partner academy
Application Process
To help us better understand your situation and determine how we can best support you, please include the following in your message or email:
A brief description of your background and service
Why you are seeking Jiu Jitsu training
How you believe Jiu Jitsu could support your healing journey
Your current location
Any previous Jiu Jitsu or martial arts experience
Our team carefully reviews every application. If space is not immediately available, applicants may be placed on a waitlist and contacted when funding or training slots open.
